Therapy techniques

Various counselling techniques are used in therapy. Some may be used in conjunction with others to achieve the best outcome for you.

Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapy

Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapy is a combination of hypnosis and therapeutic intervention. In a hypnotherapy session, after entering a deep state of relaxation, you experience a heightened and more receptive state of mind. You now have the ability to explore the impact of your sub-conscious, unconscious and super conscious minds on your life.

Unresolved issues (which could include hidden and blocked thoughts, emotions, experiences and behaviours) are brought to the surface (the conscious mind) and are processed. You make a deliberate choice to access the inner world of the self. Experiences, traumas, memories and emotions that are affecting (and controlling) your life, are explored and processed. Blockages are removed, your inner resources and strengths are reactivated and you are assisted to reconnect with the power within the self.

EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR involves the use of eye movements, tapping or auditory tones, to assist with the processing of trauma, for example rape, hi-jacking, robberies, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), motor car accidents, death, etc. It is based on the theory that, when a trauma or a negative event occurs, the processing of information may be incomplete.

This prevents you from accessing your more productive coping mechanisms stored in your memory banks. Due to overwhelming emotions and shock, unprocessed information is stored. When the individual thinks of the trauma, or when a similar situation triggers the memory, the person might feel as if he/she is reliving it. Smells, sounds, images, etc. might trigger this and can lead to the person being re-traumatized.

Inner Child Work

When you are born, you are innocent, trusting and dependant. Often your needs are ignored, you feel misunderstood, you get abused, your boundaries are disrespected, you feel powerless, you feel shamed or worthless or unwanted. In order to survive you develop coping mechanisms. For example you might build a wall around yourself, become invisible, please others, ignore your own needs, become a bully or disconnect.

These patterns are repeated into adulthood and often lead to (amongst others) dysfunctional relationships, depression, low self-esteem, fear, anger, co-dependency, addictions, sadness, distrust and loneliness.

During inner child work, you reconnect with the inner child. By listening to and nurturing the inner child you help the inner child to heal. By identifying, processing and healing your wounds, the inner child disconnects from the drama and reconnects to the joy, innocence and creativity that was lost. As the inner child is the emotional self of the adult being, this allows the adult to develop to his/her full potential in present life.

Mind-Body-Soul Healing

We are multi-faceted beings consisting of physical, emotional, psychological, social, etc. facets. When any of these facets are out of balance, it impacts on the other areas. Thoughts and emotions impact on the body and can cause physical illness and psychological imbalances. When your emotions are in turmoil, you might get a headache or stomach ache. When you are anxious, you might feel nauseous.

Mind-body-soul healing focuses on restoring and re-balancing the mind-body-soul connection. With increased understanding of the mind-body-soul connection, and with the restoring and healing of these imbalances, an improvement in health and psychological functioning can occur. This therapy does not replace medical intervention, but complements it.

‘Breath of Life’ healing

The ‘Breath of Life’ healing refers to the using of rhythmic breathing, with evocative music, in a specific setting to access a deep state of consciousness. It activates the natural internal healing abilities of the individual, healing the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual levels of your being.

Inner Sanctuary Training

During inner sanctuary training, you are assisted to create a sacred inner sanctuary where you can, amongst other benefits, receive healing, connect to your strengths and abilities, create and manifest ideas and goals and receive spiritual insight and answers.

Bardo therapy

This therapy is based on an ancient Tibetan process whereby the dying person is guided to the other side in a dignified, conscious and fearless way.

Max Meditation System™

The Max Meditation System™ was developed by Dr Gudni Gudnason who has studied phenomena of the mind for over 35 years. He has learned from and meditated with some of the greatest meditation teachers in India and Tibet.

The Max Meditation system™ is a fusion of the ancient techniques of Yoga with the modern science of Psychology and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It produces a profoundly effective system for successful meditation that works with relaxation, active and passive meditation, mental acrobatics and NLP.

Advanced Brainworking Recursive Therapy® (BWRT®- Level 2)

BrainWorking® Recursive Therapy is an innovative new concept of psychotherapy. It was created by by UK professional therapist, Terence Watts, in 2011, inspired by the research of Benjamin Libet. In 1983 Benjamin Libet (2003 winner of the Virtual Nobel Prize in Psychology from University of Klagenfurt), Professor at University of California ran a series of experiments that redefined the concept of free will.

In 1983, Libet’s experimental research, showed that there is a measurable wait (more than 1/3 second!) between the moment the brain commences to act upon any stimulus and our becoming aware of that action. BWRT® allows us the opportunity to work in that interval between the commencement of an action and conscious awareness; this allows us the opportunity to negate destructive thought patterns so completely it’s as if they were never there (https://bwrtsa.co.za/about/)

BWRT® has been designed to remove emotive responses from memories that are deeply troubling and create new, adaptive neural pathways that do not have the old undesirable emotional responses attached to it. The therapy extends the neural pathways so that the client/patient’s brain knows the new patterns to use in future. Every new experience creates a new template. In fact, immediately the therapy is finished, the client can no longer feel any negative response to the usual trigger for their presenting symptom, no matter how hard they try to ‘fire it up’. (https://bwrtsa.co.za/about/) This is similar to upgrading the software of the brain.

Some of the areas where BWRT® techniques are highly effective, are:

  • All types of performance anxiety
  • Binge eating and drinking
  • Bullying (relationship or school)
  • Commitment anxiety
  • Depression
